First Look: Upcoming Stories and Show Previews

The Phyrexian hordes are invading the Multiverse. Can the Gatewatch turn the tide?

First looks are rising in popularity because they result in some of the most raw and sweet photos. They also give the couple a chance to get out their jitters before they see all of their guests.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

For a while there it seemed like zombies were the dominant horror creature. Zombie blockbusters, zombie survival games, and reworks of classic literature all used them in droves, but it looks as though they are finally starting to lose their appeal. It’s about time for something fresh, and it seems that Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead will be just the thing to bring a smile back to the genre.

For the last three years, Tendou Akira has been a wage slave at a production company. Overworked and underpaid, he has had no life outside of work until the zombie apocalypse hits. With the company from hell closed up, Akira can now pursue his true calling – to have fun! To do so, he will have to fulfill the ultimate bucket list of 100 things to do before becoming a zombie.

Adapted from Haro Aso and Kotaro Takata’s manga series published by monthly Sunday Gene-X, Zom 100: Bucket List of The Dead will premiere on August 3, 2023, on Netflix. It will also be simulpubulated through VIZ Media.

The cast of the show will include Eiji Akaso (Akira Tendou), Mai Shiraishi (Shizuka Mikazuki), Shuntaro Yanagi (Kenichiro “Kencho” Ryuzaki), and Kazuki Kitamura (Gonzo Kosugi, Akira’s emotionally abusive boss). The music for the anime will be composed by Makoto Miyazaki who has worked on some iconic titles such as Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphan and One-Punch Man.

The animation is handled by Bug Films, a relatively new studio that has worked on various production assistance projects for seasons such as Summer Time Rendering and Komi Can’t Communicate, but this will be their first full-length animated project. The style of the animation will be a mix of flashy colors and brain-munching monsters that should stand out from other shows in the same vein.
March of the Machine

While every Pro Tour is a new puzzle to solve, Minneapolis seems to be shaping up to be particularly unique. With March of the Machine poised to change the shape of both Standard and Draft, this is a battle that could go down as one for the ages.

The set is the culmination of a four-set story arc that began with Dominaria United, and it looks to be a wild ride. The final battle will take place across countless planes, with fan-favourite characters from the length and breadth of the Multiverse standing together to fight the Phyrexian army led by Elesh Norn.

Despite a lot of cool stuff happening on the surface (including, for example, Nissa digging a hole to bury her Phyrexian husk), it’s clear that this is a set with a very dark underbelly. Ghum Hai KisiKey Pyaar Meiin Written Update know that the Phyrexians are using portals to infiltrate different planes, and they’re trying to get all of Magic’s worlds to join forces against them. There’s a good chance that, if everything goes to plan, this will be the biggest Avengers-style battle in the history of the Multiverse.

As such, it’s no surprise that Wizards has a ton of epic team-up cards to tee up the set’s lore. From Fblthp and Borborygmos joining hands to Yargle and Multani forming an unlikely alliance, there are plenty of ways that the set’s story will touch on some of Magic’s most iconic moments.

To help players experience the feeling of traveling the Multiverse with each pack they open, March of the Machine will feature “Multiverse Legends,” a series of reprints from previous sets featuring some of the game’s most iconic characters displayed in unique card frames. Similar to the Retro Artifacts of Brothers War and the Mystical Archive of Strixhaven, these cards will add another layer of meaning to each pack’s contents.

There’s also a small epilogue booster that will be released alongside the main set. This micro-set, called March of the Machine: The Aftermath, will feature a selection of these legendary cards that can be obtained by purchasing a collector booster pack.
The Last Stand

It’s fall in the forest, and the full-growth trees release a deluge of acorns. Most are eaten by the squirrels or taken away by the birds, but one acorn lands in the perfect spot to trigger a chain reaction that will transform the world.

This roguelike survival game, created by Con Artist Games (who also made the Warfare 1917 and 1944 games for Armor Games) and published by Facebook, Kongregate and Armor Games, is set in Union City after the End. The Last Stand combines Real-Time Strategy with Isometric Projection and is played from the perspective of a survivor who must scavenge in the ruins of civilization.

A former LAPD detective is now the sheriff of a small quiet town, but when a notorious drug kingpin escapes from FBI custody in a supped up Corvette, this man’s peaceful life will be turned upside down as he takes the law into his own hands in this action packed thriller. Director Jee-woon Kim brings his signature dynamic style to this story that is simple in concept but entertaining on a visual level. The Last Stand is a gripping story of heroism and self-sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds.
Magic: The Gathering Booster Pack 2

Wizards of the Coast has begun shipping gift boxes containing booster packs of its 30th Anniversary Edition to Magic influencers and celebrity players. This includes American football player Cassius Marsh, Sr. who has already opened one of the packages and shared a picture on Twitter with a full set of the new boosters.

The set contains a mix of classic and modern cards and is only available as a limited-edition product. It includes reprints of some of the most desirable cards from the first two decades of the game, including rare and mythic rares such as Timetwister, a powerful blue planeswalker that can turn time into money.

It also features a stained glass effect on the card art, with the return of some old-frame Planeswalkers such as Jaya, Fiery Negotiator. These cards are not part of the main Dominaria United set and won’t be Standard-legal, but they allow Wizards to reprint some of the most beloved characters from its history who were previously tied up in the reserve list, a set of banned and restricted cards from early sets that is designed to preserve the integrity of the core rules.

Wizards of the Coast also previewed the next major Magic release, Double Masters 2022. The premium 20-card booster pack set will include a number of desirable reprints for Eternal formats and Commander, as well as 37 new cards that are not legal in any other format. Each booster will have a specific theme, with each of the 121 boosters containing a random assortment of 20 cards aligned with that theme. The set will be sold in Draft Boosters and Collector Booster boxes.
