Albany Chapter Survey Results

We would like to thank everyone for responding to our recent survey - we received over 90 responses! It provided an interesting insight into the greater Capital Region autism community (most of the respondents were ASA members, though more than a dozen non-members answered the survey).

Overwhelmingly, there is agreement that the chapter is helpful, and it is clear that the chapter serves a wide geographic area with respondents participating from eight counties. The chapter’s events and resource library appear to be undiscovered gems. Just 64 percent of respondents had attended at least one event, though among those who did attend, fully 90 percent found the session helpful. Only 13 percent said they had requested materials from the library.

The weekly e-mail newsletter appears to be a much anticipated benefit, with 94 percent of respondents calling the communication helpful.

Most people felt a larger location for the chapter is important, with several expressing interest in after-school programs for students, or areas for child care while parents attend ASA meetings or events on-site.

Among other missions for the chapter, nearly all respondents (97 percent) believe it is important to promote a better understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders to schools and the medical community in the region.

In total, it appears the chapter is meeting the needs of most members, though there are always areas where more can be done. As the chapter continues to grow and offer additional support, one comment in particular from a respondent will likely remind the volunteer board and chapter staff why the Albany ASA is so important: “Thanks for this chapter,” the respondent wrote. “It’s a little better not feeling so alone.”

Please email your summary / thoughts to stacey@albanyautism.org.
